Things to do in Poitiers

The city is full of monuments to visit. The architecture of the city hall reflects the Neo-Renaissance era. The Baptistery of St. Jean dates from the fifth century and is one of the oldest buildings throughout France. The Notre-Dame-la-Grande has all the grandeur of the Romanesque architecture. The Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand church, registered in 1998 as a UNESCO World Heritage site, was built in the eleventh century. The St. Pierre's Cathedral, built in 1160-1379, bears witness of the "Plantagenet" or "gothic Angevin" style. The Notre-Dame-Des-Dunes statue overlooks the city from about 6.30 metres of height. Poitiers is full of gardens and parks that the whole family can enjoy. For a breath of fresh air, you have several places to choose from. The Blossac park, built by the Count of Blossac in the eighteenth century, is one of the largest and most beautiful French public gardens. Based in "the Gilliers" at the end of the resort, the park overlooks the valley of Clain. Here you will find various theme gardens offering beautiful landscapes. The Jardin des Plantes also amazes everyone with its alleys, its massive Mosaïculture, its ponds, its caves and its hundreds of species of shrubs and trees. If you want to admire thousands of roses, water plants, rockeries and other flowers (dahlias, peonies, iris, daylilies ...) try to Floral Park Rose Garden. The Bois of Saint-Pierre park is ideal for hiking enthusiasts. The area is divided in two. The first part is the developed area, a cross between a leisure center and a wildlife park. In the wilderness you will encounter chestnut and oak trees throughout your walks.
