Things to do in Ferrara

Ferrara is a city rich in history and artistic treasures, although it is quite small and peripheral as compared to nearby Bologna, Padua and Verona. Being a medieval city-state City medieval state, Ferrara has become famous for the rule of the Este family, who ruled until the seventeenth century. The Este family commissioned all the most beautiful monuments in Ferrara, allowing the birth and development of a court of artists, including famous writers like Ariosto and Tasso, and many painters as well, such as Guercino, Piero della Francesca and Mantegna, and it also remained known in history as the birthplace of the great medieval inquisitor Savonarola, burnt at the stake in 1498. A rental car is a brilliant solution to be able to visit the city and the province, allowing you to move from the coast to the Apennines without any effort.
