Jet into Cancun National Airport and you’ll find yourself in Mexico\'s second busiest airport, about 10 km (6 miles) from the hotel strip and 16 km (9 miles) southwest of downtown. You’ll also find plenty of car rental options here, although booking in advance online will lead to cheaper rates. Driving in Cancun is safe and easy, although during spring break the local police tend to have a habit of pulling tourists over for the most minor reasons – so do check that all of your rental vehicle’s lights are working when you set off. Trips out of Cancun by car that are an absolute must include Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba, Valladolid city and Cozumel, home to a national park.
