Driving Around Faro
If you have arranged car rental from the airport, the city of Faro is just a 4 ½ mile drive away. Faro Airport is also close to the A22 autoroute, which runs parallel to the coast, and provides easy access to the resorts and coastline of the Algarve, from Lagos in the west to Altura in the east. If you are tempted to explore further afield, Lisbon is a 2 ½ hour drive away on the A2. Portuguese autoroutes are usually tolled, so remember to take the necessary change, but if you avoid rush hour, you will generally find them much less busy than motorways in the UK.
