Fuengirola is a popular city with visitors wanting to combine the advantages of city shopping and eateries with the more than 6 miles of sandy beaches that the city offers, and access to all the villages, beaches and watersports offered on the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola still boasts a thriving fishing port as well as an attractive marina from where you can arrange to hire a boat or go on dolphin-watching cruises, scuba diving and sea fishing. Malaga Airport is only a fifteen minute drive from the town, making it a wonderfully convenient place to stay, and car rental facilities in the airport itself are excellent. As well as sea and sand the town also offers the tourist historic sites to explore, including Castillo Sohail, a Moorish castle overlooking the town, and Roman ruins.

Things to Do in Fuengirola

The Zoo Bioparc is an attractive park and is open all night during the summer months, making it possible to view rarely-seen night animals. The city also has many green spaces and parks where it’s pleasant to wander when the heat gets overwhelming, and for something different the Mijas Aquapark is only five minutes’ walk from the city centre, and makes a good day out for a family.

The Castillo Sohail is close to the beach, and also commands great views over the city and the coast, as well as hosting a series of concerts in the summer. The Roman ruins are also worth a visit, situated at the Torreblanca end of Los Boliches. And of course the city provides access to the 150 km of beaches and coastline of the Costa del Sol.

Drive Around Fuengirola

Having organised your car rental, getting to Fuengirola from Malaga Airport couldn’t be easier – the E-15/ A-7 brings you directly to the city. The same motorway provides access to Marbella in one direction, and Malaga and Torremolinos in another, giving the tourist a variety of the Costa del Sol’s best and liveliest resorts to visit. It’s also worth remembering that the interior boasts some spectacular countryside, and a day trip to Ronda (taking the E15 out of Fuengirola and then the A397) gateway to the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema, will more than repay the longer drive.
